I had the most wonderful engagement on May 7, 2011. It felt like the ground shook when the love of my life popped the question. As I am approaching my wedding, I am so hopeful of the future, but still trying to understand the dynamics of marriage. After marriage counselling and speaking to other couples about their ups and downs in marriage, I have mixed feelings. Excited to begin my life with the one I love, but wondering what is to come.
Marriage is ordained by God and is a beautiful commitment. I know that the person I am marrying is the right one for me, but I pray to the Lord that this love that I am feeling now remains and lasts through the lifetime.
Brides (including myself) become overwhelmingly excited about the wedding ceremony, reception, the gifts, the honeymoon and don’t forget those wedding showers. But, what happens after everyone is gone and left is you and your husband.
We were talking to a couple and found out that the husband cheated on the wife, twice. How do you trust a person after that happened. How does one work through that? The only response I got was, “God”. If God is not your base, your rock, your hard place, then marriages can fail.
After hearing that story about that couple, I told my fiance that I wouldn’t know how to deal with that situation in my life. And he simply wrote a text stating,
“You don’t have to worry about me when we get married. I love you and I don’t ever want to scar your trust or our friendship.”
That made me feel like the only one in the world. I know he loves me and I love him as well, so I believe with every hard time in our marriage, we will be able to work it out and remain faithful to each other while reminiscing on the moment of saying “I DO”.
